Walnut Pony Select Baseball Program

The purpose of the Walnut Select League is to bring more competitive baseball to Walnut Pony. Our program is designed to encourage players to stay within our organization while playing at an advanced skill level against other Select teams in neighboring cities.

Walnut Select Division FAQs

**Walnut Select** is a ‘travel like team’ with the Walnut Pony Leagues. The Select teams will travel to various cities to play other Select Teams outside of our league. The purpose is to allow players an opportunity to play more competitive baseball against teams with a higher skill level.

What is Walnut Select?

Walnut Select is a ‘travel like team’ with the Walnut Pony Leagues. The Select teams will travel to various cities to play other Select Teams outside of our league.

What is the purpose of Walnut Select?

Select team players have an opportunity to play more competitive baseball against teams with a higher skill level.

Can I play Walnut Select and Walnut Rec in the same season?

No, the game and practice schedules will conflict. Players can join either a Select or Rec Team but not both.

How many games will be played at our home field in Walnut?

The number of games in a season will vary. We strive for 50% of the games to be in Walnut, however, it will be up to field availability, umpire availability and possible rescheduled games due to adverse weather conditions.

What is the game format for Select?

Select games can be played during the week or weekends depending on team and field availability. Often games are played in a double header format where you will play the same team twice in one day. Select allows the teams to choose 3 byes where no games will be played.

What are the dates for the season?

Season officially starts on March 1-May 18. All teams will participate in playoffs. The total number of games for the season will depend upon how far your team goes in playoffs.

Can a player play up or down in a different division?

No, all players must remain in their PONY assigned age group.

Commitment and Financials

How much play time will my player get?

Much like a travel team, play time will be up to the discretion of the coaching staff based on player ability, practice time, team commitment and effort.

Will there be any other fees besides the league registration fees?

This question is answered in the section below regarding Irvine Select fees and team dues.

Irvine Select charges a team fee. Will I need to pay it?

Irvine Select charges each team a registration fee. Walnut Pony will pay the fee on behalf of the registered select team. This is part if the Walnut Pony registration fees.

Will I receive a $50 snack bar refund for working the Walnut Pony Snack Bar?

No, Select Registration Fees do not include a $50 refundable snackbar fee.

Does my team still participate in the Walnut League Fundraiser?

Yes, all teams registered to play with WYB must participate in our required sponsorship programs.

Do I still pay for raffle tickets with my registration fees?

Yes, the registration fee includes opening day raffle tickets.

Do Select Teams participate in Walnut’s League Opening Day?

Yes, all Select teams will participate in Opening Day ceremonies.
